JACKSONVILLE — State Senator Deanna Demuzio and the Morgan County Democratic Party were joined by a very special guest in Jacksonville Saturday night for the grand opening of their joint headquarters located on Morton Avenue.  Honored Iraq War Veteran Tammy Duckworth made a special stop in Jacksonville Saturday evening to show her support for Senator Demuzio’s run for State Senate.

During her remarks Saturday evening, Duckworth made specific mention of her past experiences in working with the Senator on veterans’ issues when she was the Illinois Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“From the first time that I met Senator Demuzio, she has been a real worker for her district.  When I was the Illinois Director of Veterans Affairs, Senator Demuzio made sure to keep close contact with me on issues of importance to Veterans and their families,” said Duckworth.  “She was one of the few legislators who asked me to go to her district and hold Veterans’ roundtables and listen to her Veterans’ concerns.”

Senator Demuzio spoke to supporters and outlined her plan to continue fighting in Springfield to bring back more jobs to the area and a promise to consistently stand up for the values that people in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas hold closest to them.

“Making sure that I have a strong presence in Morgan County is something that I have continually worked to achieve over the past six years,” said Demuzio.  “Fighting to protect the many facilities and hundreds of employees that make a living here and working to create even more job opportunities in the future will continue to be my top priorities going forward.

“I also cannot thank Tammy Duckworth enough for being here tonight,” added Demuzio.  “I admire her friendship, support, and hard work over the years and look to the courage she and others like her have shown in the military as an inspiration in my job each and every day.”

In addition to Senator Demuzio and Special Guest Tammy Duckworth, the event held Saturday evening also featured Congressional candidate, DK Hirner (US-18th District), and included recognition of other local dignitaries and candidates as well as Major Bryan Bowlsbey, fellow Iraqi War Veteran and husband of Tammy Duckworth. Just under 75 people attended the event which was open to the public.
